Kidney Walk Event Day Volunteer - Simcoe

We are looking for event day volunteers for our 2023 Kidney Walk that will be responsible for registering walk participants, set-up/take-down of the event, and route marshaling at St. Vincent Park (65 Blake St, Barrie, ON L4M 1J9) on Sunday September 10th, 2023. CIBC Run for the Cure Event Day Volunteers

Description: CIBC Run for the Cure Event Day Volunteers The Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure is a 5k or 1k walk or run. It is the largest single-day, volunteer-led event in Canada in support of the breast cancer cause. This year’s event will be taking place on Sunday, October 1, 2023.   POSITION OVERVIEW CIBC Run For the Cure Event Day Volunteers are an important part of the success of this event. Whether you will be helping with site set up/tear down, greeting and directing participants, photography or tallying donations, there is a volunteer position for you! As an Event Day Volunteer, you will be responsible for: Attend a location during your agreed shift Variety of duties/tasks that could include: Greet and engage participants during registration and activities General accounting Set up/tear down of tents, tables/chairs, banners Route Marshall – directing participants for the 1km and 5km routes YOUR COMMITMENT Availability on event day – Sunday, October 1 (once registered, someone from the event committee will be in contact to confirm shift and role) Shift commitment between 2-6 hours We welcome people of all backgrounds, abilities and interests. Walk Of Hope On-Site Volunteer

Description: Walk of Hope at Ovarian Cancer Canada: The Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope is the largest and most powerful event of its kind in the country. It is the only walk in Canada to direct all attention and fundraising towards improving outcomes and saving the lives of people living with and at risk of ovarian cancer. Held annually during Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in September, this family-friendly event raises vital funds to provide support, enable vital research and fuel advocacy efforts across Canada. Volunteer Event Monitor at Barrie Persian Association's Mosaic Nights Festival

Description: Barrie Persian Association is in need of volunteers to aid with the Mosaic Nights Festival. The Mosaic Nights Festival is a cultural appreciation event that consists of demonstrations of different cultural dances and music, food, lifestyle, etc. The event will take place on August 26th from 5 PM - 11 PM at Riverdale Park in Alliston. We need volunteers from about 3:30 PM till Midnight. Volunteers can work for however long they choose to, we need people for set-up, event, and clean-up. Volunteers will be supplied with cold water, snacks, name tags, and any other necessary supplies. Volunteer hours can be signed off for high school students. Students will get volunteer hours for the work they do the day of the event, any work they do in preparation for the event, and if they refer other volunteers to help. This is a great opportunity for resume-building as it is a cultural event hosted by a non-profit organization. Volunteers will also get notified about future opportunities. Call for Candidates - Board of Directors

Description: The Lake Simcoe Conservation Foundation is looking for new members from the Greater Barrie area to serve on our Board of Directors. Founded in 1973, the Lake Simcoe Conservation Foundation (LSCF) is a registered environmental charity working to help protect and conserve the land and water of the of the Simcoe watershed. LSCF has been certified in Imagine Canada’s Standards Programs for excellence in non-profit management since 2013. Roles and Responsibilities of Board Members We are looking for individuals whose skills, passion and experience align with the LSCF’s mission, guiding principles and strategic priorities. The LSCF Board of Directors provides strategic leadership, governance and oversees the operational and financial performance of the Foundation. Members of the Board bear a fiduciary duty to LSCF, its mission and its supporters. Board Members have the option to serve on one or more standing/ad hoc committees such as Executive, Finance, Nomination and Funding, or on various event committees. In pursuing their duties of care, diligence and loyalty, members are expected to come prepared for meetings, ask questions, actively participate in events and fundraising. Major Responsibilities Fulfill governance and stewardship role to ensure the long-term success of the organization Promote the organization and its mission in the community at large and build new supporters Engage with key stakeholders including funders, partners, donors, and supporters Adhere to the bylaws, policies, and purposes of the LSCF as set out in the articles of incorporation Help the Board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities including approval and oversight of the annual budget Ensure that the resources entrusted to the Foundation further the goals of the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority  Expected Commitment from Board Members Attend bi-monthly Board meetings (6 times per year) from approximately 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in Newmarket ON (mostly now in person), including the Annual General Meeting in May. Able to commit the time and resources to serve on the Board. Represent LSCF in the community, particularly the greater Barrie area. Can serve for 2 consecutive three-year terms. President, Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer are elected annually at the Annual General Meeting. Grief Facilitator

Description: Position Overview A group volunteer participates as a sharer and as one who cares in children’s or parent’s peer support groups. There is no formal counseling or therapy provided by volunteers as a part of these peer support groups. Staff and volunteers support each other, and volunteers and participants share, teach and learn about grief and grief process. Essential Skills Confidentiality – must respect what is said in group remains confidential Reporting – must report to Group Coordinator any suspicion of suicidal ideation; child abuse; chemical dependency or threats to harm immediately Reliability – if volunteer is to miss a meeting, s/he is to contact the Volunteer Coordinator as early as possible to allow sufficient time to arrange for a replacement and prepare the group for the change (see contact chart) Therapeutic Boundaries – respect for the helping relationship between volunteer and participant; establishment of person relationships is not permitted during group sessions or up to one-year post program with participants as it may interfere with the healing process Competency – services should be provided only within the boundaries of training received through The Centre   Specific Duties Participate in group sessions in a helping and supportive manner, including self-disclosure when and where appropriate Note and discuss any individual children’s needs Identify and restrict any unsafe behaviors   Reporting/Supervision All volunteers report to the Program Services Manager Issues or concerns pertaining to specific participants and/or group should be reported directly to the Group Coordinator         Requirements/Training Demonstrate working knowledge of Seasons Centre Volunteer Training Manual Attendance at Seasons Centre Volunteer Orientation Completion of specific Grief Facilitator Training Completion of ongoing training as required Clear Criminal Record Search & Vulnerable Sector Search   Time Commitment Biweekly from September to June There will be a 30 minute pre-meeting immediately prior to each group session; there will also be a 30 minute de-briefing meeting following group (may be longer depending on group process that evening) Volunteers for children’s group are normally expected to be in attendance from 5:00pm – 7:30pm; however this is subject to the needs of the group and can be adjusted by the Group Coordinator in collaboration with the group participants and volunteers

Volunteer Ski, Snowboard and Cross Country Instructors and Assistants

Description: Track3 is looking for volunteer ski, snowboard and cross country ski instructors and assistant instructors to help teach children and youth from 6 to 19 years of age who have varying cognitive or physical or both types of disabilities.  Full training is provide at no cost once you register to become a volunteer.  You must provide your own equipment.  We provide lift ticket and a fun day, night, morning or afternoon on the slopes and trails.
