Become a Shopping Angel: volunteer to shop and deliver groceries to immunocompromised individuals during COVID-19

Organization: Shopping Angels Canada
Category: Social and Community Service
Description: WHAT IS SHOPPING ANGELS? Shopping Angels is a program designed to provide services to those populations deemed especially at-risk for the novel COVID-19 virus that is spreading throughout Canada. In addition to a Canadian branch, there are branches of Shopping Angels in all fifty states and Australia with close to 5,000 volunteers. To help ease the uncertainty, anxiety, and fear surrounding this pandemic, we are looking for volunteers to personally deliver groceries or other shopping necessities to those who may prefer to stay within the safety of their own home at no additional cost. Shopping Angels is a free delivery service for groceries and other necessities. At this time, we cannot guarantee to provide these items free of charge. Some local branches may receive local donations of items or may establish partnerships with local food banks/pantries and other organizations that provide these items free of charge, but Shopping Angels cannot provide free items. HOW DOES IT WORK? Both the volunteer and client fill out the google form to give us information on how close they are to each other, and we give that information to state coordinators. Volunteer application form: https://forms.gle/YgP35fUELGyrkMzH8 Request of services form: https://forms.gle/8Kf1FwUaw6Zce6gB9 The state coordinator(s) reaches out and asks if a volunteer can help, and then assigns the able and healthy volunteer to a client. The volunteer then receives an email regarding protocol and the client’s address. From here, the volunteer will reach out to the client to coordinate a shopping trip and delivery! For any questions and concerns, we can be reached at shoppingangelscanada@gmail.com.

Barrie Butt Blitz Team

Organization: A Greener Future
Category: Environmental Improvement
Description: Ready to make a positive impact on the environment in your community? We have 25 Butt Blitz team coordinators set up in different cities across Canada on a mission to help clean up harmful cigarette butt litter while also raising awareness and educating their communities. Now, we just need volunteers to join them! The month-long Butt Blitz event will run from April 1st - 30th, and through teams of 10 local volunteers, we hope to reach the goal of picking up 1 million butts from the environment across Canada! Usually, our Butt Blitz event is a one-day event where everyone gathers together to pick up butts, but the pandemic has changed everything. This year we'll be picking up independently, and staying connected virtually. We will provide all the necessary supplies as well as safety training to ensure everyone participating stays safe. We are looking for volunteers to take part in Barrie, Ontario where Nicole Dewar is the team coordinator. Please respond to this posting if you're interested in joining the Barrie Team!   Volunteer responsibilities: - complete virtual training - attend virtual team meetings - pick up cleanup supplies and equipment - reach the goal of picking up 5,000 cigarette butts to help reach the team goal of 50,000 butts - submit cleanup results through an online form after each cleanup - drop collected butts off to team your coordinator for recycling   The amount of time committed over the month may vary depending on how many "hotspots" you come across while cleaning up. Don't worry, we'll give you some tips on the best places to go. We expect that volunteers will go out to do a cleanup once or twice per week. Collected cigarette butts will be recycled through TerraCycle Canada. All participants must be over 19 years of age. After responding to this opportunity you will be connected with your local coordinator. Virtual training will take place in March.
