The Canadian Cancer Society is recruiting Event Day volunteers for the CIBC Run for the Cure taking place in Barrie on October 4th. Volunteer roles include set up, registration, route marshal, green team, and much more! You can choose a specific role and shift(s) based on your availability. The CIBC Run for the Cure is a 5k or 1k walk or run. It is the largest single-day, volunteer-led event in Canada in support of the breast cancer cause. When you volunteer at the Canadian Cancer Society you have real impact. It takes all of us to take on cancer. No experience is necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to help!High School Students will receive 1.5 hours for each hour they volunteer to be a part of this event. We have three different volunteer positions that we need to fill for this race. If you are interested in signing up to be a volunteer you can select your preferences during the registration process. However, volunteers will be positioned based on where we need them the most.1. Water Station Volunteer Multiple shifts available throughout the event (8:30 AM - 1:30 PM and 1:00PM - 6:00 PM)Responsibilities Set up and organize hydration and nutrition supplies.Fill and restock hydration, and snacks throughout your shift.Keep the station clean by collecting discarded cups and garbage.Notify event staff if supplies are running low or if a runner requires assistance.2. Course Marshall Multiple shifts available throughout the event (8:30 AM - 1:30 PM and 1:00PM - 6:00 PM)Direct runners along the correct route using signs, hand signals, and verbal direction.Monitor your assigned section for hazards or safety concerns.Remain at your assigned location until relieved by another volunteer or event staff.3. Finish Line VolunteerMinimal volunteers required for these positions, volunteer shift is from 8:30AM - 12:30PM with two roles available: Finish Line Medals Congratulate athletes as they cross the finish line and hand out finisher medals. Ensure the finish corral is clear of any athletes standing at the finish line.Finish Line Food and Water Help distribute food and water to participants after the race. Collect food tickets from participants. Check-In Details: Volunteers are expected to arrive on time for their check in-time. When you arrive on site you will check in with the volunteer captain at the start/finish line.What to Bring: Wear weather-appropriate clothing and close-toed shoes. The Youth Justice Committee (YJC) bring together youth 12-17 who have been involved in the Criminal Justice System, their parent(s) or guardians, and trained members of the community. Together, the youth plan and agree to make amends for their actions. This program offers youth alternative measures to the Criminal Justice System for youth in; Barrie, Orillia, Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Stayner, Bradford, and Innisfil. In this volunteer role:You would attend YJC meetings to determine appropriate and meaningful ways for the youth to make amends for their actions. Ensure that the youth is aware of the purpose of the meeting and willing to discuss the matter.Explore the perspectives of all parties in each situation.Present and agree upon appropriate and meaningful sanctions for youth to complete in order to be successful in the program.Respect the confidentiality of the youth and other YJC members throughout the process.In order to begin the volunteer application process, applicants must submit a current resume to the Volunteer Coordinator, a volunteer application, two personal references, attend an in-person interview with the Volunteer Coordinator, and submit a recent Vulnerable Sector Check. We are seeking dedicated and reliable English-speaking volunteers to tutor adult learners in reading, writing, and/or math. Our learners come from a variety of backgrounds and are working to build foundational skills to support their personal, academic, or career goals. Requirements: • Strong command of spoken and written English, fundamentals of English grammar, sentence structure and vocabulary. • Clear and understandable English pronunciation, suitable for learners who are developing foundational literacy skills. Our students are learning the building blocks of English literacy. Tutors must be able to model typical English pronunciation and grammar. We provide training and ongoing support. No formal teaching experience is necessary—just patience, empathy, and a strong grasp of English.Attending an Information Session is mandatory before training.
