Description de l'opportunité
The Youth Justice Committee (YJC) bring together youth 12-17 who have been involved in the Criminal Justice System, their parent(s) or guardians, and trained members of the community. Together, the youth plan and agree to make amends for their actions. This program offers youth alternative measures to the Criminal Justice System for youth in; Barrie, Orillia, Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Stayner, Bradford, and Innisfil.
In this volunteer role:
- You would attend YJC meetings to determine appropriate and meaningful ways for the youth to make amends for their actions.
- Ensure that the youth is aware of the purpose of the meeting and willing to discuss the matter.
- Explore the perspectives of all parties in each situation.
- Present and agree upon appropriate and meaningful sanctions for youth to complete in order to be successful in the program.
- Respect the confidentiality of the youth and other YJC members throughout the process.
In order to begin the volunteer application process, applicants must submit a current resume to the Volunteer Coordinator, a volunteer application, two personal references, attend an in-person interview with the Volunteer Coordinator, and submit a recent Vulnerable Sector Check.

Youth Justice Committee Volunteers are community-minded people who have a desire to help criminalized youth by offering alternative measures to the Criminal Justice System.
