April is Sikh Heritage Month across Canada. It is a time to celebrate the many contributions that Sikh Canadians make to our community right here in Barrie.
This month was chosen because it includes Vaisakhi, one of the most important times in the Sikh calendar. It is a season of renewal and a time to celebrate the values of service, equality, and social justice.
Why it matters for volunteers
The Sikh concept of Seva (selfless service) is a perfect example of what volunteering is all about. Whether it is helping at a local food bank, supporting a neighborhood cleanup, or helping a neighbor in need, the spirit of giving back is what makes Simcoe County a better place for everyone.
Many of our local nonprofit organizations in ON are founded on these principles of helping others.
