Opportunity Description:

The No More Starving Artists Food Rescue program offers Co-op members and members of the community access to free food. With the help of our amazing partners, this program has rescued over 65,000 lbs of fresh, unsold food and provided over 12,500 free meals to the local community. The goal of this program is to capture and distribute surplus food before it ends up in the landfill which negatively impacts our environment. We are looking for volunteers to help out in several different roles: Sorting Food: Volunteers and employees sort the food and other items that are provided to us by our partners. They will select the freshest products using the first in, first out method. They must also appropriately dispose of the food that cannot be distributed. Products must be stocked in appropriate categories and designated areas. Packing Orders: Receiving orders via our website, volunteers will pack up individual orders by their designated pick-up time. They must ensure that orders are packed up accurately and in a timely manner. Driving: We need volunteers to drive to local partner stores to pick up donated food then drive it to our location in downtown Barrie (80 Bradford St Suite 601). The majority of the driving will be completed between the hours of 8:00am and 9:00am daily, with some occasional afternoon pick-ups as well. Inventory: Using Shopify, volunteers and employees update the product inventory information. Quantities of items need to be maintained and product photos updated periodically. Volunteers are welcomed to help with any and all roles within Food Rescue. We greatly appreciate any help you can provide and are willing to accommodate flexible hours. Food Rescue operates mainly between the hours of 8:00 am and 2:00 pm daily. Due to our COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Policy, all staff and volunteers must submit proof of vaccination of their second dose to the HR team before they can begin work. All volunteers will be provided with food-handling and other training. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email us! If you would like to volunteer with us, please let us know what role(s) you would be interested in, your availability, and when you would like to begin volunteering. Thank you again for taking an interest in volunteering with us! We look forward to hearing from you soon!
