A small baroque orchestra, performing in Collier St. Church, under the direction of Oliver Balaburski, was the genesis of the present day Huronia Symphony Orchestra. Now celebrating its 51th season, the HSO is the sole community orchestra in Barrie and Simcoe County. The orchestra is comprised of 55 talented and dedicated volunteer musicians from the community and five professionals who lead the major sections. Members are drawn from all walks of life and reflect the diverse social fabric of this dynamic region.

I Challenge Diabetes (ICD) was founded by Chris Jarvis, a former Canadian Olympic rower living with type 1 diabetes. During his athletic career, Chris recognized a significant lack of understanding and support for those managing type 1 diabetes. This inspired him to create I Challenge Diabetes—a charity dedicated to empowering individuals in the diabetes community with the skills, resources, and inspiration to take control of their health and live vibrant, fulfilling lives. What began as a grassroots movement has grown into a national organization, building a strong, supportive community for those affected by diabetes. Through educational programs, mentorship, and ongoing support, I Challenge Diabetes enables individuals to take charge of their health and well-being. Since 2015, ICD has proudly delivered over 1,000 programs in more than 125 cities across Canada, offering over 74,000 opportunities for mentorship, training, and empowerment.

Through digitally-enabled, in-school and after-school learning, JA students gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to realize the opportunities, and realities, of work, school, and life. JA experiences and events empower young people to think about and plan their futures, supported by our network of educators, corporate partners and volunteers. JA students consider how the career paths they take, the financial decisions they make – and perhaps the companies they create – will be not only successful, but also have positive social and environmental impact. Students benefit on this journey from the mentorship and inspiration of our JA network – professionals who share real-world experience of navigating, shaping, and re-shaping their own stories.

Journey to Diversity Workplaces: Respecting Differences Ethically, Morally, and Legally Journey to Diversity Workplaces is a unique project with the aim of changing the workplace for the better forever. We believe that everyone deserves respect and fair treatment when it comes to work and payment, no matter who they are or what they look like. This is why we started this experiment so we can make sure that everyone is respected, diversity is celebrated and our differences are considered our strengths not our weaknesses! At J2DW there are no bosses and employees – we are all equals. We are a member of OnGood, Charity Village, CIRA, and the Ontario Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only 24/7 e-mental health service offering free, confidential support to young people in English and French. The challenges facing young people in Canada have grown more complex, and youth need access to the supports that are most relevant to them. To achieve our vision, it’s critical that we meet these challenges — and quickly. Our History Kids Help Phone has a pioneering history of creating innovative supports for critical issues young people face. We began in 1989 as a unique telephone counselling service, launched to provide free, accessible support to any young person reaching out from coast to coast to coast. Our focus was supporting young people experiencing abuse, but almost immediately, young people let us know they needed more from the service than one focus and one way to reach us. For over 30 years, we’ve evolved our response and offerings. We concentrate on staying relevant to youth, recognizing the complexity of issues they face, and we help to ensure our professional counsellors and volunteer crisis responders are ready to address young people’s continuum of emotional and mental health needs, from crisis situations to the everyday concerns of growing up.

Kids Help Phone’s mission is to always be open, providing a safe, trusted place for young people in any moment of crisis or need. Since 1989, we have been committed to serving every young person who reaches out to us for help without judgement. We are Canada’s only 24/7, national mental health service for young people, offering bilingual professional counselling, clinically-based tools, resource referrals and crisis support services. The Learning Disabilities Association of York-Simcoe (LDAYS), formally known as Learning Disabilities Association of York Region (LDAYR) is a charitable non-profit organization which was established in 1976. We provide leadership in Learning Disabilities advocacy, research, education and services, and strive to advance the full participation of children, youth and adults with Learning Disabilities (LD) in society.

Listening Post Barrie is an initiative of Burton Avenue United Church. We are community folks who show up with open hearts and a non-judgmental presence for people to be heard with compassion at various locations in Barrie.
