March of Dimes Canada’s mission is to maximize the independence, personal empowerment and community participation of people with disabilities. Dedicated volunteers have helped March of Dimes Canada to become a national leader in the provision of programs and services for this growing community. Our vision is to create an inclusive society for everyone. Volunteering with March of Dimes Canada will provide you with opportunities to use your diverse skills to make a difference in your community - while gaining valuable knowledge and hands-on experience.

There are volunteering opportunities in the Barrie area, and we would love to have you volunteer with us. We have a group of folks who normally volunteer at our Barrie clinic as well as mobile clinics in the community but we are always looking for new volunteers who are able to support the program! A Donor Centre Volunteer’s main responsibility is in the hospitality area of blood donor events.  Volunteers play an integral part in maintaining donor relationships as they provide a warm and welcoming environment post donation. They offer refreshments, thank donors and monitor for donor reactions.  Volunteers work hand in hand with clinic staff to ensure a positive donation experience. We are however, looking for volunteers who can commit to a regular shift for at least a six-month term. This does not mean that you would have to volunteer at every event but just that, we would need to know that we could count on you to take a regular shift. ie a two hour shift every other clinic or we could count on you to provide backup if another volunteer calls in.  Events in Barrie with volunteer shifts generally being two hours to two and half hours long. Please note, all volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated (2 government approved doses) against Covid 19 and will need to show me proof (one time only) prior to being scheduled for a volunteer shift.

Barrie Skateboard Association "To support and advocate for the skateboarding community of Barrie” Our Mission: 1. Community Engagement: To create an inclusive space for skateboarders of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to connect, collaborate, and find a sense of belonging within the skateboarding community. 2. Youth Empowerment: We prioritize our youth, providing opportunities for learning, mentorship, and skill development in skateboarding, fostering personal growth, resilience, and determination among our youth members. We believe the most important of life lessons can be learned through skateboarding. 3. Advocacy and Awareness: We advocate for the recognition of skateboarding as a legitimate and beneficial physical activity, striving to break down stereotypes and promote its positive impact on individuals and communities. 4. Safety and Access: We work to ensure safe and accessible skateboarding facilities for all, advocating for skateparks and infrastructure that enrich communities and promote physical well-being.   Together with our dedicated members, partners, and financial supporters, we are committed to advancing our mission, fostering a culture of respect and unity, and leaving a lasting, positive impact on the world through the love of skateboarding.

The Human Factor Community Organization will elevate the status of humankind through programs, services, consulting community partners, and, where appropriate, advocacy in order to increase the health and well-being of the whole human and the communities where we live, play, and work.

Listening Post Barrie is an initiative of Burton Avenue United Church. We are community folks who show up with open hearts and a non-judgmental presence for people to be heard with compassion at various locations in Barrie.

A 10 project plan to rehabilitate the people of the community suffering from, trauma, mental health and addiction!  To provide affordable housing, job training along with cheaper cleaner food.

We are a Registered Charity, who own 73 acres of beautiful forest in the Midhurst area.  We have been working for almost two years to open a youth/seniors/family campground on the property which features six themed campsites.  Kanata, which has five teepees, Georgian which his five military garrisons, Prospector with five Yukon cabins, Adirondack which has five trapper shanties, Pioneer with five covered wagons, and Wendake with three magnificent longhouses.  We also have a site for ordinary tent camping, or overflow, and a renovated school portable which contains fridges, stove, an office, and is the camp Emergency Shelter and first aid headquarters.  There is a landline phone, wifi, a computer and heat/air conditioning in this building.  Our purpose is to celebrate Canada's rich cultural heritage, and our beautiful natural environment.  We aim to teach respect for all things living green, and for nature all around us.  Teaching respect for the past and the present will naturally carry forward in the minds of our guests to make great citizens of our communities in the future.

CTN supports over 26,000 kids and youth with disabilities and developmental needs. Through 110,000+ service visits per year, we provide intake, service navigation and coordinated service planning, assessment and diagnostic services, specialized clinics and rehabilitation services, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech language therapy. Our support reaches kids and youth in their homes, communities and schools, from birth up until their 19th birthday (or until completion of high school) through our network model of service delivery. Through the collective efforts of community partners, we provide and enhance services, champion system change and build capacity primarily in York Region and Simcoe County, as well as Central and West Toronto, Dufferin, Halton, Peel, Waterloo and Wellington. We also support families by connecting them with other community agencies who provide additional resources and programs outside of our partnerships. Our network model engages families at all levels within the organization, allowing us to provide coordinated services. CTN and the services provided by our network partners are funded by Ontario’s Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) and are free for families. However, there may be costs associated with provision of special equipment, materials or supplies needed by some kids and youth. CTN is accredited through CARF International, meeting internationally recognized organizational and program standards and signaling its commitment to quality by continually improving services, encouraging feedback and serving the community.

We deliver innovative programs and powerful advocacy that empower people impacted by blindness to live their dreams and tear down barriers to inclusion. Our work as a blind foundation is powered by a network of volunteers, donors and partners from coast to coast to coast.

Are you looking for a fulfilling volunteer opportunity to help others in your community? The Order of St. John is one of the world’s oldest humanitarian organizations. It started with the Knights Hospitaller of Saint John of Jerusalem in 1099 creating a hospital to treat pilgrims and crusaders. Now a world-wide non-denominational charitable organization, Saint John is dedicated to the service of others in over 40 countries; with more than 30,000 members. St John is supported by approximately 250,000 regular volunteers and 4,000 employees. Still in Jerusalem, St. John Eye Hospital treats patients free of charge with satellite clinics in Gaza, Hebron & Anabta.  On average the Hospital treats 125,000 patients per year including 38,000 children and performed 5,200 sight-saving operations last year.  Services around the globe include: eye clinics in South Africa, hospices in Antigua, dental clinics in Uganda, dialysis clinics in Malaysia, HIV/AIDS Counseling and testing services in Jamaica, Mother and Baby programs in Kenya. In Australia and New Zealand, St. John provides paramedic services (EMS). In Ontario, St. John Ambulance (SJA) is currently divided into 12 Regions and 3 Service Centers. SJA Council for Ontario has more than 139 years of continuous service to the citizens of Ontario. Simcoe Muskoka Branch members have been volunteering to help people for more than 81 years. Simcoe Muskoka’s Community Services are comprised of Medical First Responders, Therapy Dogs, Car Seat Educators, Youth Unit, Non-uniform volunteers and Fellowship members. They contribute more than 20,000 hours each year in total. Simcoe Muskoka Branch has its own Board of Directors which oversees the activities of its volunteers, provides strategic direction and maintains the Branch profile with the Community.  Board membership also participates in one or more of five committees as follows: Community Services Committee; Community Relations Committee; Honours and Awards Committee; Fund Development Committee; and Northern Development Committee. Shortly, there will be two openings on our Board. We seek people to join us who have interest in our Purpose (Saving Lives) and can bring insight and experience in one or more of Marketing, Community Relations and Fund Development and who live either in Simcoe County. In terms of time, there are roughly 9 Board meetings a year as well as Committee work. Involvement, depending on portfolio could be from 5-20 hours per month (when there’s a Board meeting, usually less when not). The SEMBA Awards recognizes the outstanding Black and Multicultural Businesses through a yearly award and ceremony aimed at showcasing the contributions of Black and Multicultural businesses in Simcoe County.  The primary means of achieving this purpose is through recommendations from the community to the selection committee of SEMBA.  In accordance with the eligibility criteria, the awards will follow the established process for selection, awarding, and recognition.
